Google Calendar

Connect Google Calendar to see your events next to your tasks. Today can read your calendars, but it can't change or delete your events. Tasks you choose to add go to a separate calendar named “Today”, which only the app writes to.

Connect

Connecting is easiest on a computer.

  1. Go to Settings → Google Calendar.
  2. Select Connect Google Calendar.
  3. Choose your Google account.
  4. Google says the app isn't verified. That's expected, because it's your private app. Select Advanced.
  5. Select Go to Today.
  6. Allow every item Google asks about.

Back in Today, you'll see “Google Calendar is connected.” If it says “Google Calendar wasn’t connected”, try again, and allow every item on Google's screen.

If Settings says “Waiting for the Google setup on the server.”, ask your admin.

Choose your calendars

Under Show these calendars, turn each calendar on or off. “(main)” marks your main calendar. At first, Today shows the calendars that Google Calendar itself shows.

Where events show

  • My Day lists today's events in a Schedule box.
  • The Calendar shows events on each day, and lists them when you select a day.

Select an event's name in those lists to open it in Google Calendar. Today doesn't save your events. It gets them from Google when you look, so a new event can take a minute or two to appear.

Add a task to your calendar

  1. Open the task.
  2. Turn on Add to Google Calendar. The task needs a date first.

The task appears in the calendar named “Today”:

  • A task with a time becomes a 30-minute event. A task without a time becomes an all-day event.
  • The event shows the task's name and notes, with a link back to the task.
  • Google doesn't send its own reminders for it, so you aren't reminded twice.
  • When you change the task's name, notes, date or time, the event follows. Make those changes in Today: edits you make in Google Calendar are replaced the next time the task is copied.
  • Checking off or deleting the task, removing its date or turning off the switch removes the event.
  • For a repeating task, only the next one is on your calendar.

If a copy fails, the reason shows under the switch, and Today tries again.

Clash warnings

When a task's time overlaps an event on a calendar you show, Today warns you. If there's a free time later that day, it offers it:

  • In quick add, a chip says “Clashes with” and the event's name. Select it to use the free time.
  • In an open task, a note says “Overlaps with” the event. Select Move it to use the free time.

Today treats each task as 30 minutes long. All-day events don't count, and free times end by 9:00 PM.

Disconnect

  1. Go to Settings → Google Calendar.
  2. Select Disconnect.
  3. To remove your task copies too, tick Also delete the “Today” calendar (the task copies) from Google Calendar.
  4. Select Disconnect.

Your own events aren't touched. If you keep the “Today” calendar, it stays in Google Calendar but stops updating.

If Settings shows a problem instead, like “Google stopped accepting Today's access”, select Connect again.
