Add a task
Quick add is the fastest way to add a task. You type a sentence, and Today picks out the date, time, project and more.
Open quick add
- On a computer, click New task at the top of the sidebar, or press
QorN. - On iPhone, tap the big + in the middle of the tab bar.
Where you are matters. On My Day, a new task is due today. On a project page, it goes into that project. In the Calendar, it's due on the day you've selected. If your sentence names a date or a project, that wins.
Type your task
Type what you need to do, the way you'd say it. For example:
Remind me to water the plants tomorrow at 9am
As you type, chips under the text show what Today understood. Here, the date chip says “Tomorrow 9:00 AM”, and so does the reminder chip. A line starting with “Task:” shows the name Today will save, here “Water the plants”.
When the box is empty, Today shows a few example sentences. Select one to try it.
To see everything you can type, read What quick add understands.
Check the chips
You can change any chip before you save:
- Date: the day and time.
- The project chip, which says Inbox when there's no project.
- Priority: High, Medium or Low.
- Repeat: how often the task comes back.
- Remind me: when to send a notification.
- Top 3: adds the task to today's Top 3.
A highlighted chip with a question mark means Today is guessing. Check it before you save.
If a date could mean two different days, Today shows the other one in a chip, like “or Fri, Nov 6?”. Select it to switch.
If you've connected Google Calendar and the time clashes with an event, a chip says “Clashes with” and names the event. If it also suggests a time, select it to use that time instead.
