What quick add understands

Quick add moves the words it recognizes into the task's details. The rest becomes the task's name. Siri understands the same words.

Dates

TypeYou get
today, tomorrowThat day
Friday, on FridayThe next Friday
next FridayA Friday, with the Friday a week later offered as a choice
Oct 30That date
in 3 daysThree days from now
this weekendSaturday
this week, end of weekFriday
next weekMonday
end of monthThe last day of the month
next monthThe 1st of next month

When you type the name of today's weekday, you get today, with next week offered as a choice. Always check the date chip when you say “next”.

Small words just before a date, like “on”, “by” or “for”, are left out of the name too.

Times

TypeYou get
at 3pm, at 9:30 AMThat time
at 55:00 PM. Hours from 1 to 6 without am or pm count as afternoon.
this morning9:00 AM
this afternoon2:00 PM
this evening6:00 PM
tonight7:00 PM

A time without a date means today. If that time has already passed, it means tomorrow.

Projects

  • Type # and the start of a project's name. For example, #errands picks a project called Errands.
  • Or mention the project's name in your sentence.
  • A project's quick-add words point to it too. See Projects and the board.
  • Today learns as you go. When you add a task to a project with quick add, it remembers the words in your sentence that start with a capital letter, like names of people and companies. The more often you use a name with a project, the more likely Today is to suggest that project.

If no project matches what you typed after #, the word stays in the task's name.

When Today is only guessing, the project chip shows a question mark. If two projects fit equally well, the task stays in the Inbox, and both are listed under Suggested when you open the chip.

Priority

TypeYou get
!high, !1 or !!!High
!medium, !2 or !!Medium
!low or !3Low
high priority, urgent, asapHigh

The words “urgent” and “asap” stay in the task's name.

TypeYou get
every day, dailyEvery day
every weekdayMonday to Friday
every Monday and ThursdayThose days each week
every other week, every 2 weeksEvery two weeks
every month, every 15thEvery month
every year, yearlyEvery year

Without a date, the task starts on the first day that fits, even when you add a time. For example, every Monday at 10am starts on the next Monday, or today if it's Monday and 10am hasn't passed yet. See Repeating tasks.

  • Start with Remind me to to add a reminder. It's set for the task's time, or for your default reminder time when there's no time. Without a date, the reminder chip says Remind me when? so you can choose.
  • At the start of a sentence, openers like I need to, Don't forget to and Todo: are left out of the name.
  • A web address that starts with http:// or https:// is saved as a link on the task.
