Repeating tasks
A repeating task comes back on a schedule. When you check one off, Today adds the next one with the next date.
Make a task repeat
When you add a task, put the repeat in your sentence, like Pay rent every 1st or Team call every Monday and Thursday. See What quick add understands.
Or open a task and select the Repeat chip. You can choose:
- Every day
- Every weekday, which is Monday to Friday
- Every week on the task's weekday, like Every Monday
- Every two weeks on that weekday, like Every 2 weeks on Mon
- Every month on the task's day, like Every month on the 26th
- Every year
- Custom…
The weekday and the day of the month come from the task's date, or from today if it has no date. A repeating task always has a date: if you don't give one, it starts on the first day that fits.
Set a custom repeat
- Select Custom….
- Next to Every, type a number.
- Choose days, weeks, months or years.
- For weeks, select the days of the week you want. For days, you can tick Weekdays only.
- Select Save.
A line above the buttons shows the repeat in words, like “Every 2 weeks on Mon, Thu”.
Repeat after completion
Normally the next date counts from the due date. To count from the day you actually finish the task, open the Repeat chip and choose Repeat after completion. In Custom…, the same option is called Count from when I complete it.
This suits things like watering plants: “every 2 weeks after I last did it”. The chip then reads, for example, “Every 2 weeks after completion”.
When you check it off
- Today adds the next task with the next date, and the message says “The next one is scheduled.”
- The next task keeps the name, project, priority, time, notes and links. Its subtasks start unticked, and its reminder moves to the new date.
- If the task was overdue, the next date is after today, so old copies don't pile up.
- If you select Undo or uncheck the task, Today removes the next one again, as long as you haven't changed it.
Stop a task from repeating
- Open the task.
- Select the repeat chip. It shows the repeat, like Every Monday.
- Choose Don’t repeat.
