Reminders and snooze
A reminder sends a notification about a task at the time you choose. To receive it, turn on notifications on at least one device first. See Turn on notifications.
Set a reminder
- Open the task.
- Select the Remind me chip.
- Choose At due time, 15 minutes before, 1 hour before or 1 day before. These choices only appear when the task has a date.
To pick any date and time instead:
- Select the Remind me chip.
- Choose Pick date and time….
- Set the date and time.
- Select Set reminder.
You can also start a quick-add sentence with Remind me to. See What quick add understands.
A task with an upcoming reminder shows a small bell in your lists. Each task has one reminder: choosing a new one replaces the old one. To remove it, open the chip and choose No reminder.
If no device has notifications turned on, the task says “No device gets notifications yet.” Select Turn them on to go to the right setting.
Tasks without a time
If a task has a date but no time, reminders count from your default reminder time. That's 9:00 AM, unless you change it in Settings → General → Default reminder time. For example, 1 hour before on a task due tomorrow goes off at 8:00 AM tomorrow.
When you move a task
When you move a task to another day, its reminder moves with it. If you remove a task's date, a reminder that counts from the due time, like 1 hour before, is removed too.
When a reminder goes off
The notification shows the task's name, when it's due and its project. Select it to open the task.
- On a computer, the notification also has Done and Snooze 10 min buttons.
- On iPhone, notifications don't have buttons. Tap the notification to open the task, then snooze it or check it off there.
You don't get reminders for tasks you've already finished or deleted.
Snooze
For 24 hours after a reminder goes off, the open task shows Snooze with three choices:
- 10 min
- 1 hour
- Tomorrow, which reminds you tomorrow at your default reminder time
A message confirms it, like “Snoozed: reminding you in 10 minutes.”
