Turn on notifications

Today's server sends your notifications, so they arrive even when the app is closed. Turn them on separately on each device where you want them.

On iPhone

You need iOS 16.4 or later, and Today must be on your Home Screen. See Install Today and sign in. Notifications don't work in a Safari tab.

  1. Open Today from your Home Screen.
  2. Tap the gear at the top of My Day to open Settings.
  3. Under Notifications, tap Turn on notifications.
  4. Tap Allow when your iPhone asks.

If you're in Safari instead of the Home Screen app, Settings says “On iPhone, open Today from your Home Screen, then turn notifications on there.”

On a Mac or Windows PC

  1. Open Today in Chrome or Edge, or open the installed app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Under Notifications, click Turn on notifications.
  4. Click Allow when the browser asks.

When it works, This device says “On. Reminders will show up here.”

Send a test

Under Devices that get notifications, select Send a test. Every device on the list should show “Notifications are on” within a few seconds.

The list names each device, like “iPhone” or “Chrome on Mac”, and when Today last sent it something. To stop notifications on a device, open Settings on that device and select Turn off here. To remove a device you no longer have, select ✕ next to it. A removed device stays off: if it still has Today, its notifications switch off the next time it opens Settings.

Morning plan and evening check-in

These daily notifications go to every device on the list. Select one to open My Day.

  • Morning plan lists what's due today, your Top 3 and anything overdue. It's on, at 8:00 AM, unless you change it. It isn't sent on days with nothing to show.
  • Evening check-in tells you how many of today's tasks are still open, or how many are overdue. It's off unless you turn it on, and its time is 6:00 PM unless you change it. It isn't sent when everything is done.

Turn each one on or off with its switch, and set its time in the box next to it. These two settings apply to all your devices.

The app badge

The installed app's icon shows a number: how many tasks are due today or overdue. It updates when you open Today and when a notification arrives. On iPhone, the number only appears once notifications are on.

Good to know

  • Focus modes and Low Power Mode can hold notifications back.
  • If notifications stop arriving, see Troubleshooting.
