Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second step when you sign in. After your password, you type a 6-digit code from an app on your phone. It's optional, but it protects your account even if someone learns your password.

You need an authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator or Authy.

Turn it on

  1. Click your name at the top right.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Open the Security tab.
  4. Click Enable 2FA.
  5. Type your Current password.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. If you can't scan it, type the secret shown below Or enter this secret manually: into the app instead.
  8. Click Continue.
  9. Type the 6-digit code from the app.
  10. Click Verify.
  11. Save your 10 recovery codes with Copy all or Download, and keep them somewhere safe, such as a password manager.
  12. Tick I have saved these codes in a safe place.
  13. Click Done.

Sign in with a code

After you type your password, Planka shows Two-Factor Authentication Required.

  1. Type the 6-digit code from your app.
  2. On your own computer, you can tick Trust this browser for 30 days. Planka then skips the code on that browser for 30 days.
  3. Click Verify.

If you wait too long, Planka asks you to sign in again from the start.

If you lose your phone

Type one of your recovery codes instead of the 6-digit code. Each recovery code works once. When three or fewer are left, the Security tab warns you.

To get a new set of codes:

  1. On the Security tab, click Regenerate recovery codes.
  2. Type your Current password.
  3. Type the code from your app in TOTP code.
  4. Click Regenerate.
  5. Save the new codes.
  6. Click Done.

Your old codes stop working.

If you have neither your phone nor a recovery code, ask your admin to reset your two-factor authentication. You can then sign in with just your password and turn it on again.

Trusted browsers

The Trusted Browsers list on the Security tab shows each browser you've trusted, when it was last used and when it expires. Click Revoke next to any you don't recognize or no longer use.

Turn it off

  1. On the Security tab, click Disable 2FA.
  2. Type your Current password.
  3. In TOTP or recovery code, type a code from your app or a recovery code.
  4. Click Disable 2FA.
